| Each year, you have seen an icon indicating reapportionment tax bills. So, what are they? Simply put, a property owner is splitting their property up into multiple parcels after the annual cut off date of July 1st. Most often this is due to a family member dividing up property to heirs. Sometimes a person is doing a subdivision for homes. Other times, it might be a neighbor who wants a particular strip of land and has negotiated an agreement to consummate a transfer. As a result, the assessor and the tax collector have to split the tax bill up according to the new individual property values. This only happens once with a property in any given year. Usually, but not always, new parcel numbers are assigned to each property. This year two properties got split into four properties. |
